I grew up in Ohio. I went to college in Boston and went into the ROTC program. Somehow my time in the Army made me very desirable to the BSB. Though I had prior experience with Others before the president was bit.
I dated a witch in high school. She broke my heart. In college I dated a werefox. She shedded all over my dorm and marked some of my sweaters during a full moon. She also broke my heart. While training for the BSB I met Angie, or as she was known in her Boston days, Katera. I was smart enough not to date her. I just slept with her.
But unlike the Others I'd been with before this one continued to hang around. Vampires didn't really cling to people. They were monsters with no feelings and little care for how humans did things. Still, Angie, despite being old as hell, didn't have the typical monster vibe. She wasn't a cuddly bunny or anything, but she wasn't interested in my blood. Not after the first time at least. I let her bite me once and she told me I ate too much pasta.
She left Boston under terrible circumstances and changed her name. She kept in touch with me and when she left Chicago she told me I could use her house. When I was assigned to work a drug circuit with my partner, CJ, I took advantage of Angie's offer.
She had warned me about some uptight girl who may hang around, but I thought it was a joke. Then I met Samantha. She wasn't so much uptight as loud and kinda shrieky. Then I found out she knew my main suspect. I knew this silly, little girl was in danger, but also knew nothing short of changing her name and moving her out of the city would save her.
Angie fixed that. I called her after arresting Samantha and her crazy, ginger haired friend. The call had been a courtesy. I figured if Angie was letting Samantha stay in her house, there wasn't bad blood there. The next morning I got a check with the note, "To help my loveys against the Rossis." She had written a $40,000 check to pay off Rossi.
I cashed it and gave it to Mike Rossi. Per Angie's instructions I said it was from a well meaning were. I was supposed to play like it was from Sean Benson. I had met the guy, if he had the money he'd have paid off Rossi.
Still, I felt bad for Dunmore. Sure Benson was nice to her now. Attentive, understanding to having to bail her out of jail, funny. But there is only heartbreak in that relationship. Others don't stay with humans.
